Coach Christophe Galtier confirmed that Lionel Messi is no longer with PSG after this season ends.
“I have the honor to coach the best player in the history of football. Meeting Clermont (June 4) will be Leo’s last match at the Parc des Princes,” coach Galtier announced in a pre-match press conference.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added: “Messi’s departure from PSG has been planned. Leo’s father, Jorge, told PSG more than a month ago. Messi will announce his next destination soon.”
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 2022 World Cup champion refused to renew with the Ligue 1 club after this team’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Messi was opposed by PSG fans when he went with his family to Saudi Arabia to take on the role of this country’s tourism ambassador.
On May 28, “El Pulga” did not attend the award ceremony of the Ligue 1 organizers to be present in Barcelona to settle private matters. Spanish media reported that Messi pre-registered his three sons to attend a school in Barcelona.
Revelo revealed that a school in Castelldefels, a town on the outskirts of Barcelona, received applications from Messi. The 2022 World Cup champion wants to “reserve” places for Thiago, Mateo and Ciro to study at Castelldefels for the next school year.
Messi’s future is a topic that has been talked about a lot in recent times. Inter Miami, Al Hilal and Barca are the three most aggressive clubs in the pursuit of the 35-year-old superstar. Al Hilal is said to have sent Messi an invitation to Saudi Arabia to play with an income of 1.2 billion euros for two seasons, three times higher than Cristiano Ronaldo’s current income at Al Nassr.
Messi’s father showed interest in the offer from the Middle East, but Leo himself still harbored the idea of Barca. The Catalan club is still waiting for a move from the La Liga organizers to know if they have the financial conditions to recruit Messi.
On the PSG side, they plan to recruit midfielder Bernardo Silva to rebuild their attack this summer. Advisor Luis Campos sees Silva as the ideal replacement for Leo. This player can play well on the wing or in the middle. He is also very knowledgeable about Ligue 1.
