According to the Sun (England), some Man Utd fans think that striker Erling Haaland should be severely punished for swearing on television, during Man City’s coronation ceremony in the Premier League on May 21.
While Man City celebrated the Premier League championship, midfielder Jack Grealish gave an interview to Sky Sports. Haaland suddenly stepped in and said to his teammates: “Fuck, I love you, you know it!”.
Grealish laughed at the Norwegian striker’s joke, then talked about the close relationship between the two in front of the camera.
Sky Sports commentator Dave Jones has to apologize to TV viewers for Haaland’s swearing. Many fans also sympathize with the excitement of the Man City striker, but Man Utd fans do not. According to the Sun, they believe that Haaland should be suspended, because Wayne Rooney has received a ban from playing for similar behavior.
In April 2011, Rooney was banned for two games for swearing in front of the camera, after scoring in Man Utd’s 4-2 win over West Ham. Rooney’s ban greatly affected the “Reds”, causing them to lose the FA Cup semi-final to Man City – the team then won the first title in the Sheikh Mansour era.
However, Haaland will not be fined, because the English Football Association has no plans to investigate the case of the striker who scored 52 goals for Man City in all competitions this season. Haaland’s swearing took place long after the final whistle of Man City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea, and is seen as an expression of joy and excitement. As for Rooney, the swearing took place during the match and was judged as “insulting, insulting”.
Haaland is not fined which means he will still be available in the FA Cup final against Man Utd on June 3. A week later, Haaland and his teammates will play Inter in the Champions League final. If they win both of these finals, Man City will win the treble, repeating the achievement Man Utd made in 1999.
